deadline to apply: monday, july 2nd, 9am pst

Position Dates:? Aug 31st, 2012 to August 30th, 2013
Hours:? 40 hours/week, generally 9am ? 5:30pm with flexibility around evening and weekend activities
Wages:? You receive a stipend from VISTA: $892 monthly living stipend (before taxes), $5,550 educational award or $1500 cash stipend at end of service. Check out the Washington Service Corps website for more details.

We have ambitious goals to expand GRuB?s work with low-income youth and families. ?We are looking for a VISTA member to ?try-on?, evaluate, research, and help create new systems that expand our capacity to work with youth, volunteers, and gardeners in our programs. A core responsibility will be an overhaul of our existing volunteer and community outreach programs, honing the way we engage and welcome people into our work while also creating a strong support base for sustainable operations.

Major responsibilities include:

  • Complete a thorough evaluation and overhaul of GRuB?s volunteer and outreach programs and systems. Evaluation would include volunteer interviews, comparisons to other organizations, and nonprofit best practices. The end result should include a clearly documented program plan with all systems, forms, etc. in place. This role includes the VISTA member holding responsibility for the organization?s volunteer and outreach coordination in order to fully understand the current systems, and most importantly, the seasonal fluctuations of volunteer/outreach requests and organizational needs.? The VISTA member will not lead volunteers directly except as required for development and evaluation purposes. The VISTA member may participate more frequently in outreach activities in order to evaluate their individual efficacy and importance to the organization.
  • Build a GRuB Ambassador component to the volunteer program. The VISTA member will build the existing GRuB Docent program into a more robust program that engages and trains the ?super volunteers? who hold more long term, responsible positions. This program should create a network of people who have a strong passion for GRuB?s work, are able to represent the organization well, and can help promote GRuB?s success.
  • ?Database integration. Our new database gives us a much greater opportunity to engage, track, and collaborate with volunteers and other GRuB supporters.? The VISTA member will train on the Z2 Systems NEON database and fully integrate the volunteer program. This is an exciting opportunity to not only improve our tracking and recognition of volunteers, but also to create an online portal for volunteers to take more ownership of their experience with GRuB. The VISTA member will also play a larger role helping a staff member to integrate all programs into the database and create a training plan for staff and volunteers.
  • Strategic Plan Support. The VISTA member will play a key support role with staff in various tasks required to bring the Strategic Plan to a finished action plan.? This role will be a lower priority than other duties, but is a vital service as we seek to create clear roadmaps for 5 different goals.

Qualifications:

  • ? ?18 years old or older (on Sept 1st, 2012), high school equivalency (VISTA age requirement)
  • Mature, outgoing, comfortable working in a group, highly collaborative while also able to work independently.
  • Strong communication, organization, facilitation, and tech skills.? Experience with databases a plus.
  • Highly motivated and positive problem solver.? Able to take a goal/project and lead it to completion.
  • Previous experience with volunteer programs and nonprofit work preferred.
