Father sought for murder in NJ toddler's drowning (AP)

FREEHOLD, N.J. ? The fugitive father of a 2-year-old girl found dead in a car seat in a creek was charged with murder Wednesday after an autopsy showed she had drowned.

Arthur Morgan III remained at large despite a dragnet involving 13 law enforcement agencies including the FBI. Authorities believe the 27-year-old Morgan, of Ocean Township, may have left the state.

The victim, Tierra Morgan-Glover, lived in Lakehurst with her mother and was having a court-approved visit with her father on Monday, but he never took her back. The girl's body was discovered Tuesday in Wall Township, about 20 miles north of where she lived.

"This is an unspeakably awful tragedy," Monmouth County Prosecutor Peter Warshaw said. "It appears to be senseless and without reason."

The toddler was discovered by children playing in Shark River Park, said Christopher Gramiccioni, a spokesman for the Monmouth County prosecutor's office. The children notified park rangers, who called police.

A 911 call was received by police at 2:28 p.m., saying that "student-aged children came across what they were concerned was a child in the creek," Gramiccioni said.

Police found the girl's body, still strapped in the car seat, partly submerged in the creek, a tributary of the nearby Shark River. The creek is 3 to 7 feet deep in the area where the body was found, near a roadway overpass about 15 feet above the creek.

Warshaw would not say whether authorities believe the girl was thrown from a vehicle into the creek, or whether she was carried into the park and placed in the water.

An autopsy conducted by the county medical examiner's office determined the cause of death as "homicidal violence, including submersion in water."

A warrant from Ocean County charging Morgan with child endangerment and interference with custody had been issued before the girl's body was found.

Transit police agencies, including NJ Transit, Amtrak and the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, were assisting the FBI and the U.S. Marshals Service in a search that included train and bus stations, airports, highway bridges and tunnels.

Morgan was last seen on a platform of the Asbury Park train station Monday night between 7 and 8 p.m., the prosecutor said.

His last permanent address was at an apartment in Eatontown, but Morgan had been staying on and off with a friend in Ocean Township, just outside Asbury Park, the prosecutor added.

"The police are working with every ounce of their being to locate him," Warshaw said.

No one answered the door Wednesday afternoon at the Lakehurst home where the child had lived with her mother, Imani Benton. Earlier in the day, the child's grandmother, Michelle Simmons, told The Star-Ledger of Newark the family is having a hard time coping.

"We are just trying to get through this," she said. "It's very difficult."

The death of the toddler marks the second time in two years that a young girl has died under such circumstances in New Jersey.

A former Galloway Township man is awaiting trial on murder and kidnapping charges in the drowning of his 3-month-old daughter in February 2010, when he is accused of throwing the infant off a bridge on the Garden State Parkway.

The baby's body was found several weeks later along the banks of the Raritan River. The mother had sole custody of the child and was seeking a restraining order against the baby's father at the time of the abduction.

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) ? Tiger and Bear are toy poodles, making the trip to Grandmother?s house in Virginia.

Their mom, Jenna Andrews, said she?s a little nervous about them traveling.

?He can get in little moods where he gets growly and fights,? She said.

And she?s not quite sure how to handle those all-important pit stops.

?I have a potty pad, and maybe I?ll go into one of those family restrooms and just put it down,? Andrews said.

?And my parents are out there, and we?re excited. Anika?s birthday is today. She turns 4,? Cindy said.

Jason said they got to the Minneapolis-St Paul International Airport early on Wednesday. He said they have to plan for the unexpected.

?Like diaper changes, meltdowns and spit ups,? he said.

One airport worker said they added staff, and that?s made the lines move more quickly as travelers fly out to see relatives over the holidays.

Still, officials recommend getting to the airport at least two hours prior to departure.

?Mornings can be especially busy,? said Jeff Hamiel, executive director of the Metropolitan Airports Commission, which owns and operates the MSP airport.

He said if you haven?t flown in a while, there are some security screening procedures to remember. For example, be sure to take your 1-quart size bag of liquids out of your carry-on luggage to be screened separately.

And remember, the security checkpoint that is closest to your gate isn?t always the best option. Consider using Check Point 6 because it has the most queuing capacity.

SKorea flaunts firepower year after NKorean attack (AP)

YEONPYEONG ISLAND, South Korea ? South Korean attack helicopters screamed through the skies above the Koreas' disputed Yellow Sea waters Wednesday in a display of power exactly a year after North Korea launched a deadly artillery attack on a front-line island.

Residents of Yeonpyeong Island laid flowers at statues to commemorate the four South Koreans killed in the barrage and sent aloft a balloon carrying a banner with their portraits. On the mainland, Prime Minister Kim Hwang-sik joined families of the victims at the National Cemetery south of the capital for a solemn tribute on a cold, windy day.

Kim Yong-sub, a former marine who was stationed on Yeonpyeong during the attack, laid a flower at the cemetery in his friends' honor.

"I still think a lot about that day," he said.

Wednesday's drills involving aircraft, rocket launchers and artillery guns took place off Baengnyeong Island, another front-line territory near the disputed maritime border, and were meant to send a strong message to North Korean rivals stationed within sight just miles (kilometers) away.

The exercises represent far greater firepower than the South Korean military mounted last year in response to the artillery shells showered on military garrisons and fishing villages on nearby Yeonpyeong, Joint Chiefs of Staff spokesman Lee Bung-woo said.

"South Korea's government will never compromise, and will take firm measures when it comes to the safety and security of our people and the country," Prime Minister Kim said.

South Korea's delayed response to the shelling at the time ? the first on a civilian area since the three-year Korean War ended with a truce in 1953 ? drew heavy criticism and concern that Seoul was unprepared for a North Korean provocation. The defense minister resigned, and successor Kim Kwan-jin has pledged a fierce air strike if the North stages another attack.

Two construction workers and two marines were killed, dozens of homes decimated and scores evacuated to the mainland. Most islanders have returned but remain traumatized by the attack, which turned the tiny island's downtown into an inferno.

"I often become tense when something goes 'boom,'" said Yoo Dae-geun, 33, who runs a restaurant on the island. "Whenever there are military drills, we all cannot work and must take refuge in bomb shelters. So, we cannot have normal daily lives."

Pyongyang blamed Seoul for provoking the attack, saying it struck after warning the South not to carry out live-fire drills in waters both Koreas claim as their territory.

"The pursuit of continued military confrontation and war will eventually bring about the fate of devastation," North Korea's main Rodong Sinmun newspaper said Wednesday, again accusing South Korea of provoking the attack. North Korea's official government website called the plan to conduct drills "reckless."

North Korea disputes the maritime border drawn by the U.N. at the close of the war, and three deadly naval gunfights have taken place in the Yellow Sea waters since 1999. South Korea also holds North Korea responsible for the sinking of one of its warships in March last year; 46 sailors were killed. Pyongyang denies involvement.

In the past year, South Korea has spent millions of dollars to beef up its arsenal in the Yellow Sea, installing additional radars, setting up a separate defense command and deploying precision-guided rockets designed to take out North Korea's hidden coastal artillery.

However, there have been recent signs that animosities between the rival Koreas are easing, with diplomats seeking to resume North Korean nuclear disarmament talks.

South Korean President Lee Myung-bak told officers that he was sorry North Korea has not yet apologized for the shelling, according to the presidential Blue House. Lee paid a visit Wednesday to a military command that handles the defense of the Yellow Sea area.

He said he expects Pyongyang to apologize if North Korea wants to improve the relations between the two Koreas.

Police burn protest tents to clear Cairo's Tahrir

Egyptian soldiers and police set fire to protest tents in Cairo's Tahrir Square and fired tear gas and rubber bullets in a major assault Sunday to drive out thousands demanding that the military rulers quickly transfer power to a civilian government. At least 11 protesters were killed and hundreds were injured.

It was the second day of clashes marking a sharp escalation of tensions on Egypt's streets a week before the first elections since the ouster of longtime authoritarian leader Hosni Mubarak in February. The military took over the country, promising a swift transition to civilian rule. But the pro-democracy protesters who led the uprising have grown increasingly angry with the ruling generals, and suspect they are trying to cling to power even after an elected parliament is seated and a new president is voted in.

Street battles continued throughout the day and long into the night, spreading to side streets and sending a wave of injuries to makeshift clinics on the streets.

The military-backed Cabinet said in a statement that elections set to begin on Nov. 28 would take place on time and thanked the police for their "restraint," language that is likely to enrage the protesters even more.

"We're not going anywhere," protester Mohammed Radwan said after security forces tried unsuccessfully to push the crowds out of Tahrir, the epicenter of the uprising. "The mood is good now and people are chanting again," he added after many of the demonstrators returned.

The two days of clashes were some of the worst since the uprising ended on Feb. 11.

They were also one of only a few violent confrontations to involve the police since the uprising. The black-clad police were a hated symbol of Mubarak's regime and after the uprising, they have largely stayed in the background while the military took charge of security.

The military, which took over from Mubarak, has repeatedly pledged to hand power to an elected civilian government, but has yet to set a specific date. The protests over the past two days have demanded a specific date be set.

According to one timetable floated by the army, the handover will happen after presidential elections late next year or early in 2013. The protesters say this is too long and accuse the military of dragging its feet. They want a handover immediately after the end of the staggered parliamentary elections, which begin on Nov. 28 and end in March.

Story: Egypt protesters return to Tahrir Square to protest military 'dictatorship'

The protesters' suspicions about the military were fed by a proposal issued by the military-appointed Cabinet last week. It would shield the armed forces from any civilian oversight and give the generals veto power over legislation dealing with military affairs.

But other concerns are also feeding the tensions on the street. Many Egyptians are anxious about what the impending elections will bring. Specifically they worry that stalwarts of Mubarak's ruling party could win a significant number of seats in the next parliament because the military did not ban them from running for public office as requested by activists.

The military's failure to issue such a ban has fed widely held suspicion that the generals are reluctant to dismantle the old regime, partly out of loyalty to Mubarak, their longtime mentor.

The Supreme Council of the Armed Forces issued a statement expressing "regret for the events."

The council doesn't intend "to extend the transitional period and will not permit by any means hindering the process of democratic transition," it said a statement read out on state TV.

The violence began Saturday when security forces stormed a sit-in at Tahrir Square staged by protesters wounded in clashes during the 18-day uprising in January and February and frustrated by the slow pace of bringing those responsible to justice.

The wounded, some on crutches, ran away when police attacked, but some fell down and were beaten by police.

One of those injured on Saturday was dentist Ahmed Hararah, who lost the sight in his right eye on Jan. 28 and now thinks he lost the sight in his left eye despite treatment at an eye hospital in Cairo.

The violence resumed Sunday, when police fired tear gas and rubber bullets to try to clear about 5,000 protesters still in Tahrir. Many chanted "freedom, freedom" as they pelted police with rocks and a white cloud of tear gas hung in the air.

"We have a single demand: The marshal must step down and be replaced by a civilian council," said protester Ahmed Hani, referring to Field Marshal Hussein Tantawi, head of the ruling military council and Mubarak's longtime defense minister. "The violence yesterday showed us that Mubarak is still in power," said Hani, who was wounded in the forehead by a rubber bullet.

Many of the protesters had red eyes and coughed incessantly. Some wore surgical masks to ward off the tear gas. A few fainted, overwhelmed by the gas.

Around sundown, an Associated Press reporter in Tahrir said police and troops briefly chased the protesters out of most of the square. They set at least a dozen of the protesters' tents, along with blankets and banners, ablaze after nightfall and a pall of black smoke rose over the square as the sound of gunshots rang out.

Story: Egypt in uproar after blogger posts nude photos

"This is what they (the military) will do if they rule the country," one protester screamed while running away from the approaching security forces.

Protesters initially ran away in panic while being chased by army soldiers and police hitting them with clubs. But they later regrouped at the southern entrance of the square next to the famed Egyptian museum and began to walk back to the square. Hundreds made their way back, waving the red, white and black Egyptian flags and chanting "Allahu akbar," or God is great.

Both sides then began pelting each other with rocks.

Security forces pulled back to the outskirts of the square, where clashes continued into the night.

A video posted on social networking sites showed a soldier dragging the motionless body of a protester along the street and leaving him in a garbage-strewn section of Tahrir Square.

A medical official at Cairo's main morgue said at least 11 protesters were killed on Sunday. He spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to talk to reporters.

Doctors at two field hospitals in the square said that among the dead was one man killed by a blow to his head and another by gunshots.

Rocks, shattered glass and trash covered Tahrir Square and the side streets around it. The windows of the main campus of the American University in Cairo, which overlooks the square, were shattered and stores were shuttered.

"The marshal is Mubarak's dog," read freshly scrawled graffiti in the square.

An Interior Ministry statement said some of the protesters were using firearms, firebombs and knifes to attack security forces.

Clashes also took place in the city of Suez east of Cairo, the coastal city of el-Arish in the Sinai Peninsula, the city of Alexandria and Assiut in southern Egypt.

Berlusconi faces future of legal, business woes (AP)

ROME ? His legacy tarnished and his hopes of clinging to power dashed, Silvio Berlusconi faces daunting legal and financial challenges and the prospect of life outside the international spotlight now that he has left office.

He has vowed he won't run again for office, though few expect he'll abandon Italian politics for good. Berlusconi himself has already said he might help out a campaign here or there because, well, "they've always turned out well for me."

But with Berlusconi's resignation as premier Saturday following months of market turmoil, a political era in Italy closes and the 75-year-old Berlusconi is just a billionaire businessman once again.

"What we are viewing now is not the end of a government, but the end of a system, of a political system," said Massimo Franco, a political analyst for leading daily Corriere Della Sera.

Indeed, Berlusconi dominated Italian politics for the last 17 years, a polarizing figure who served three terms as premier. He held off political opponents and jousted with magistrates pursuing him on corruption and sexual misconduct charges, but was felled by massive international and market pressure.

The media mogul had thrived rubbing shoulders with the powerful, whether vacationing with Russia's Vladimir Putin or getting a taste of Texas ranch life when hosted by then President George W. Bush in a meeting of Iraq war allies.

But seen as an impediment to economic reform, his exit came quickly as Italy was swept up by Europe's debt crisis.

Whether he goes back to running his media empire or even returning to the vacant post as president of his beloved AC Milan soccer team, he faces an unpleasant agenda. Judging from how his media voices are reacting, it won't be a completely quiet exit.

"Stop a Europe of technocrats," clamored a headline in the family newspaper Il Giornale of Italy's presumed new government headed by economist Mario Monti. "This government is a coup."

Berlusconi's resignation will mean he can no longer claim official government business as a reason for missing hearings in his three trials, a tactic that has been used to delay proceedings. His attempt at fashioning a law that would have given him immunity was overturned by the Constitutional Court.

But charges in two Milan trials related to his business dealings will run out due to the statute of limitations early next year ? leaving little peril that the billionaire would face any penalty even if courts can reach a conviction in the first trial. The Italian system allows for two levels of appeal.

Berlusconi is expected to testify before Christmas in his trial on charges of paying British lawyer David Mills to lie for him on the stand in another case. A verdict is expected in late January, but with the statute of limitations set to expire in March, it is impossible that two levels of appeal could be completed to make any verdict final.

Berlusconi has denied the charge, and Mills saw his conviction overturned on appeal.

In the other trial concerning his Mediaset media empire, Berlusconi is charged with tax fraud in the purchase of TV rights. Berlusconi denies the charges, which also expire in the spring.

In Berlusconi's most sensational trial, the 75-year-old is accused of paying for sex with a Moroccan teen ? known by her nickname Ruby Rubacuore, "Ruby the Heartstealer" ? and using his influence to cover it up. No fewer than 22 court dates have been scheduled through May.

A conviction would mean Berlusconi would be permanently barred from public office ? but he has already pledged not to run again and his hopes of one day becoming Italian president were dashed by the sex scandal.

That leaves the billionaire back where he started: running his considerable empire. The economic crisis has made that more challenging.

Shares in Mediaset have lost half of their value since May, as the debt crisis lapped ever more perilously at Italian businesses, and dropped by as much as 10 percent in trading sessions this week as Berlusconi's political future was decided by the markets.

Mediaset ? which is controlled by the family holding company Fininvest and includes private TV stations as well as newspapers and other publications ? dropped from euro4.242 a share in May to euro2.142 on Friday.

"It could be that Berlusconi is very scared by the financial crisis. If you think that Fininvest is 95 percent invested in Italy," said Carlo Guarnieri, a political scientist as the University of Bologna.

Even more dangerous was his loss of a civil suit to rival media group over corruption in the acquisition of the Mondadori publishing empire. A court has ordered him to euro560 million ($800 million) for corrupting a judge.

Alarmed by the amount, Berlusconi went as far as quietly introducing a measure into Italy's austerity budget this summer that would have allowed the company to delay payment until the final appeal, but withdrew it after political opponents raised an outcry.

He can still count on friends in high places to look after his interests: his 41-year-old political heir, Angelo Alfano, now heads his People of Liberties party and he remains its founder.

But Franco, the Corriere della Sera analyst, said Berlusconi's future in the near-term is probably not on Italy's center political stage.

"I think Berlusconi can just survive, maybe with a personal party, but I don't think he is due to rule and lead Italy in the foreseeable future any more," he said.

Venezuela vows all-out hunt for Nationals' Ramos

24-year-old catcher kidnapped after finishing his rookie season

By IAN JAMES and JORGE RUEDA

updated 5:27 p.m. ET Nov. 10, 2011

CARACAS, Venezuela - The government sent top investigators Thursday to hunt for Washington Nationals catcher Wilson Ramos, whose abduction has shaken Venezuela's elite athletes and focused attention on the nation's sharp rise in kidnappings for ransom.

The 24-year-old player, who had returned to Venezuela after his rookie season, was just outside the front door at his home on Wednesday night when an SUV approached, armed men got out "and they took him away," said Ramos' agent, Gustavo Marcano.

It was the first known kidnapping of a Major League Baseball player in Venezuela, though the relatives of some ballplayers have previously been held captive for ransom.

Police found the kidnappers' vehicle abandoned in the nearby town of Bejuma on Thursday morning, Justice Minister Tareck El Aissami said. He said anti-kidnapping units led by "the best investigators we have" were dispatched to the area in central Carabobo state.

He vowed to rescue Ramos and capture his abductors.

"We're taking on this investigation with everything we've got," El Aissami said.

Major League Baseball and the Nationals said the leagues' Department of Investigations was working with authorities.

"Our foremost concern is with Wilson Ramos and his family and our thoughts are with them at this time," the team and the MLB said in a joint statement, adding there would be no further comment.

Ramos was outside with his father and two brothers in their working-class neighborhood of Santa Ines on the outskirts of Valencia when the SUV pulled up with four men inside, three of whom got out and seized the player, Marcano said.

"The abductors haven't made contact with the family or with anyone," said Domingo Alvarez, vice president of the Venezuelan Professional Baseball League. "We're worried."

Ramos is a key young player for the Nationals. As a rookie in 2011, he hit .267 with 15 home runs and 52 RBIs in 113 games. He also threw out 19 of 67 runners attempting to steal a base, a 28 percent success rate that ranked third among qualifying catchers in the National League.

Washington acquired Ramos from the Minnesota Twins in a trade for All-Star relief pitcher Matt Capps in July 2010.

He is one of dozens of Venezuelans in professional baseball, and security while at home has increasingly become a concern for the players and their families as a rising wave of kidnappings has hit the wealthy as well as the middle class.

Venezuelan police said 618 kidnappings were reported in 2009, and the numbers have grown rapidly in recent years. In 1998, when President Hugo Chavez was elected, just 52 kidnappings were reported. Security experts say the real number of kidnappings today is much higher because many cases aren't reported to authorities.

The wealthy have taken steps to protect themselves. Sales of armored cars have soared in the past several years. Bodyguards typically shadow major leaguers when they return to their homeland to play in the winter league.

"Every major league player has his own security, but we don't know if he had his security there at that time," Alvarez said.

Former Boston Red Sox slugger Tony Armas, who lives in Venezuela, said young players have been taking additional security measures due to the risk of kidnappings.

"But many of them are careless sometimes. No one seriously thinks that this can happen to us, and much less in a country like ours where people love baseball," Armas said in a telephone interview.

"Most of us came from humble families. We still have relatives who live in poor areas; we frequent those places and unfortunately the criminals are getting more soulless all the time," he said.

In November 2009, the 56-year-old mother of Victor Zambrano, who retired after a seven-year Major League career, was rescued in a commando-style operation three days after she was kidnapped. The former pitcher's cousin, Richard Mendez Zambrano, had been kidnapped a few days earlier, and was later killed.

In June 2009, Colorado Rockies catcher Yorvit Torrealba's 11-year-old son and brother-in-law were kidnapped and released a day later.

The mother of former player Ugueth Urbina, who was a two-time All-Star pitcher, spent more than five months in captivity until she was rescued in early 2005.

Venezuela has one of Latin America's highest murder rates, and violent crime has worsened in recent years. As ransom kidnapping has soared, the government passed a revised law in 2009 that stiffened prison sentences for kidnapping and also allows authorities to freeze the banks accounts of victims' families to prevent them from paying ransom.

Ramos had been training and planned to start playing with his Venezuelan team next week. Arizona Diamondbacks third baseman Melvin Mora, also a Venezuelan, proposed that the Venezuelan league ought to call off its games "until he appears."

But league president Jose Grasso said that won't happen. "Turning out the stadium lights isn't a solution," Grasso said, calling Ramos' abduction "an isolated event."

Wall St tumbles at open on growing Italy fears (Reuters)

NEW YORK (Reuters) ? Stocks dropped more than 2 percent in early trading on Wednesday as a spike in Italian bond yields prompted fears the region's debt crisis was spiraling.

Italian bond yields shot up to 7.502 percent, a new high since the euro was introduced in 1999, as investors dumped the debt after a clearing house increased margin calls. Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi's promise to resign failed to persuade markets that the country will be able to deliver on economic reforms.

Italy has replaced Greece at the center of the euro zone debt crisis and is seen teetering on the cusp of requiring a bailout.

Portugal and Ireland were forced to seek bailouts when their borrowing costs reached similar levels.

"You have this fear of default which is clearly driving up bond yields. This sparks the need to enforce austerity, at least some people believe," said Joseph Tanious, market strategist at J.P. Morgan Funds in New York.

"That only creates a fiscal drag and pushes these European economies, which are already on the brink of a recession, deeper into the hole, and that only exacerbates the issue and creates this negative feedback loop."

The Dow Jones industrial average slid 278.59 points, or 2.29 percent, at 11,891.59. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index dropped 32.02 points, or 2.51 percent, at 1,243.90. The Nasdaq Composite Index was off 70.16 points, or 2.57 percent, at 2,657.33.

Financial stocks were off on concerns about U.S. banks' exposure to European debt. Morgan Stanley fell 6.6 percent to $16.17 and Goldman Sachs dipped 4.8 percent to $103.33. The KBW Capital Markets index lost 4.2 percent.

Adding to worries about the region, a plan for a former European Central Bank official to lead a new Greek government ran into trouble as the nation sought to head off a feared bankruptcy.

General Motors Co slid 9.5 percent to $22.67 after the automaker said it would not break even for the year in Europe, as it hoped, due to deteriorating conditions in the region.

Adele has throat surgery, full recovery expected (Reuters)

(Reuters) ? British singer-songwriter Adele is expected to make a full recovery after undergoing vocal cord microsurgery, hospital officials in Boston said.

The Grammy-winning singer, who was forced by throat problems to cancel tour dates through the end of the year, had surgery in Boston to treat a benign polyp on her vocal cords which was causing recurrent bleeding, Massachusetts General Hospital said in a statement.

The condition "is typically the result of unstable blood vessels in the vocal cord that can rupture," the hospital said in a statement on Monday, adding that doctors expect the singer "to make a full recovery from her laser microsurgery."

The hospital did not say when Adele had the surgery.

Last week the singer dismissed rampant speculation in the media that she has throat cancer.

"We would like to reiterate that Adele is to undergo surgery for a hemorrhaged vocal cord. All reports regarding any other condition are 100 percent false," her spokesman said in a statement.

The surgery was performed by Dr. Steven Zeitels, who the hospital said has pioneered many vocal cord surgical procedures, including the use of specialized lasers to stop vocal cord bleeding in singers.

Earlier this month Adele pulled out of 10 U.S. dates on the back of her hit album "21" that has produced hits such as "Rolling in the Deep" and "Someone Like You." "21" is the best-selling album of the year in the United States.

Svetlana Feller: 9 Ways to Get Radiant Fall Skin

Fall is a time to repair and restore. As the seasons change, so do thoughts about our skincare and fitness routines. Stay out of those old patterns of putting away your skin and fitness goals when you pull out the jeans and sweaters. Make this fall the time to bump it up, and improve on the summer skin and body goals you already achieved. Since my clients ask me about this almost daily, I'd like to share some of my best fall recommendations and tips:

Cool it down. Hot water can be very drying to the skin. Use lukewarm water when washing your face and consider shorter shower times (good for the environment and your utility bills, too!).

Moisturize! Skin needs change as the seasons change; use a moisturizer that fits your current skin condition. Summer is hot and humid, so a heavy moisturizer is not needed. By the time fall hits and temperatures drop, skin becomes more dehydrated, especially coming off of summer and tanned skin, and you must transition accordingly.

Hydrate your skin. Drinking water helps your skin stay young looking and is good for your overall health. Be sure to take in at least six 6-oz. glasses per day, or more if you are actively exercising three to four times per week (which you should be).

Practice safe sun. This is a big one! Exercise your melanin. If you don't use it, you can lose it. The cloudy layer that arrives during the fall doesn't protect your skin from UV ray damage. To prevent your skin from aging prematurely and to reduce your risk of developing skin cancer, apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen and wear sun-protective clothing. If you must have your sexy bronze glow, be safe! The skin cancer foundation reports that tanning beds put you at a high risk of melanoma. UV rays and tanning beds contribute to 90 percent of premature aging.

Keep your summer glow with an organic spray tan! Facial wrinkles, neck wrinkles and brown spots are all trademarks of the sun. At-home spray tanning products are available everywhere and the convenience of companies like mine, Spray Di Sole, are making spray tanning safe and beautiful. Convenient choices are on the market to keep a healthy glow through the fall!

Exfoliate. Exfoliation is a process of scrubbing the face and body to remove dead skin cells to expose younger, fresher skin. Avoid harsh physical exfoliates; instead try mixing sugar with olive oil to help bind the moisture to the skin. You should exfoliate once per week.

Switch up your makeup. You should transition to fall makeup shades, but the switch from summer to fall makeup doesn't have to be drastic; try opting for warmer shades. Try a creamy lipstick rather than gloss and if your summer glow has started to fade, dust bronzer on your forehead, cheeks, nose and chin. This fall is all about the "nude" color palette -- it's universally flattering and totally gorgeous because nudes enhance a woman's true skin tone and beauty.

Stay active. Make sure you're happy in the skin you're in. As the seasons change, you might notice a change in more than just your skin care regime: you might see a change in your mood too. Try to excercise at least 30 minutes a day -- you will feel better by boosting your endorphins.

Remember, happiness is beautiful. As for the frumpy fall mood; reach for the walnuts! These brain-shaped nuts have mood-boosting effects and help with the aging process. They are high in omega 3s and fiber. Foods rich in omega 3s help with your serotonin levels, which is the key to metal well-being. Fiber helps keep your blood sugar levels regulated. With the combination of both of these you will feel the boost.

Love the skin you're in!

Marquez suspension extended to 3 games

updated 7:50 p.m. ET Nov. 3, 2011

NEW YORK - Major League Soccer has extended the suspension of New York Red Bulls defender Rafael Marquez to three games.

Marquez, the Mexican national team captain, was given a red card Sunday for firing a ball at the Los Angeles Galaxy's Landon Donovan following a playoff game.

The red card carried an automatic one-game suspension and $250 fine, and MLS's disciplinary added an additional two matches and $2,000. The committee said "Marquez's conduct was violent and aggressive and put the league in disrepute." It said Marquez attempted to head butt and punch Adam Cristman, that he struck the Galaxy forward and Marquez simulated he had been struck in the face.

While the MLS Players Union appealed, MLS Commissioner Don Garber upheld the penalty Thursday. Any suspension not served this year would carry to next season.

In addition, fines of undisclosed amounts were assessed to Cristman and Red Bulls midfielder Teemu Tainio. The league cited them for improper conduct and escalating the incident.

Marquez was also left off Mexico's squad for a friendly match against Serbia next week. The 32-year-old Marquez, who led Mexico at the 2010 World Cup, joins Real Sociedad striker Carlos Vela in missing out on a place in the 20-man list.
